Johnson closes 100 of 460 dry cleaning stores

Johnson Service Group, the UK’s largest dry cleaning chain, will close more than 100 of its 460 Johnson Cleaner stores as part of a restructuring after their sales fell 2.7 per cent in the first half of the year. Johnson has not yet announced which stores will be closed. Paul Ogle, the managing director of the dry cleaning division, will leave the company’s board because it is merging its dry cleaning and textile rental business to save on branding costs. Executive chairman John Talbot said that the measures will help the firm to turn the tide and become profitable again. ‘We have confidence that our continuing dry cleaning estate will not only be able to withstand the current retail environment but make a telling contribution to the group’s future performance.’
